Thomas J. Hayek

Tom provides counsel in professional negligence cases, products liability claims, aviation litigation and personal injury cases. He has tried numerous cases to verdict in Illinois and Missouri, and has argued multiple appeals before the state appellate courts in Illinois and Missouri, as well as the United States Courts of Appeal for the 7th and 8th Circuits.  Tom has been admitted to practice before the United States Supreme Court.  In addition, Tom has represented aviation related professionals before the National Transportation Safety Board.

Tom is a Colonel in the Missouri Air National Guard, and is currently the Commander of the 231st Civil Engineer Flight, a unit of degreed engineers providing design and construction management services for military personnel across the globe.  He has served tours of duty in Afghanistan and Iraq.  Tom was awarded the Bronze Star for his service as the Officer-In-Charge of Detachment 14, 732nd Expeditionary Civil Engineer Squadron in Al Asad, Iraq from December 2007 – June 2008.  He was awarded the Meritorious Service Medal for his service in Afghanistan from December 2005 through May 2005, and has also received the Army and Air Force Commendation Medals, and the Air Force Achievement Medal.

Tom enjoys membership in the Missouri Organization of Defense Lawyers, Illinois Association of Defense Trial Counsel, Defense Research Institute, Lawyer-Pilots Bar Association and National Transportation Safety Board Bar Association. In addition, Tom has served as a columnist for Journal of St. Louis Metropolitan Medical Society, Missouri State Medical Society, and Midwest Aviation Journal.

Tom obtained his Bachelor of Science degree Electrical Engineering from the University of Missouri-Columbia in 1982 and his Master of Science degree in Electrical Engineering from Washington University in 1984, which he concentrated his study in Biomedical Engineering.  After working for a local hospital group, Tom attended law school at St. Louis University where he received the Everett Hullverson Award for Excellence in Trial Advocacy, and obtained his Juris Doctorate in 1989.

Tom, his wife Catherine and their two children, Ellen (18) and Tommy (16) are active in their church. Tom also has his Commercial Pilot’s Certificate with 900+ hours flight time and enjoys running marathons.
